Dear members of the United Nations Security Council,
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who voted in favor of the Srebrenica resolution yesterday and stood on the side of proven scientific and legal facts in regards to calling Srebrenica by its rightful name – genocide.
It was deeply painful and disheartening to see Russia stand arm in arm with genocide deniers. This disgraceful act will not be forgotten in Bosnia and Herzegovina or within the international community. Russia has once again proven that there are still a large number of people who claim that Srebrenica was not a genocide, and by doing so, they disrespect the thousands of victims as well as their grieving loved ones. By acknowledging Srebrenica for what it is, you have taken a big step towards helping justice prevail, which is the only way that Bosnia and Herzegovina can progress towards being united and at peace.
The proposed text of the Srebrenica resolution voted 10 countries:
Great Britain / Peter Wilson, SAD/Samantha Power, Jordan/ Dina Kawar, Chad/ Mahamat Cherif, France/ Francois Delattre, Spain/ Roman Oyarzun, Lithuania / Raimonda Murmokaite, Malaysia / Dato Ramlan Ibrahim, New Zealand/ Gerard van Bohemen i Chile/Cristian Barros.
Four abstentions: Nigeria/ U.Joy Ogwu, Angola/Ismael Abraao Gaspar Martins, Venezuela / Rafael Darío Ramírez Carreño i China/Liu Jieyi, and the Russian Federation voting against /Vitaly Churkin.
Thank you for your continued support and leadership.
With sincere gratitude,
President of World Bosniak Congress
Dr Mustafa Cerić
